Christie Berven  has over thirty years of public and private Elementary teaching experience. She holds a California Teaching Credential issued for life.   She is recognized as a Master Teacher who has developed model learning centers in several schools in California. She managed a program for gifted elementary students and served on a district-wide language arts curriculum committee. She also has tutored special needs children.

Christie co-directed Woodland Gardens Academy (with Tom) in Durango from 1999-2002, a private small tutorial school.   She began the Kid Fest Summer camps in the summer of 2006, and has recently taught Art classes for Durango Art Center, and Art and Permaculture at Columbine Christian School. She has completed the Permaculture Design Course, the Permaculture Teacher Training program, the ZERI (Zero Emissions and Research Initiatives) 2005 Certification training and the Fungi Perfecti Professional Mushroom Cultivation course.  Her work also includes Permaculture consultation and design.

Tom Riesing, Ph.D., taught at the Harvard Business School. He has an engineering degree from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in economics, finance and cognitive psychology from M.I.T. He worked for over 20-years on Wall Street at Citibank, Morgan-Stanley and CS First Boston. He is an experienced outdoorsman, an organic gardener, a gourmet vegetarian chef, a photographer, a small aircraft pilot and offshore sailor. He is one of the organizers of the Sustainability Alliance of SW Colorado and is currently its treasurer. He has completed the Permaculture Design Course, the Permaculture Teacher Training program, the ZERI (Zero Emissions and Research Initiatives) 2005 Certification training and the Fungi Perfecti Professional Mushroom Cultivation course.
